
All volunteers need to have the following:
¨ Ability to read
¨ Ability and willingness to follow directions
¨ Ability and willingness to work independently
In addition to the above, volunteers need to:
¨ Volunteer when scheduled (NOTE: We understand that things come up that may prevent you from volunteering on a particular day. We do ask that you contact the library if you are unable to keep your shift assignment.)
¨ Be Punctual – Please show up on time.
¨ Adhere to Baxter County Library Volunteer policies and procedures.
Training
¨ The library staff will train you to perform the duties for your job. However, we do require that you possess the qualifications listed in the job description.

Computer Assistant
DESCRIPTION |
Computer Assistants manage the Public Access Computer Areas four hours each day to assist patrons in using the computers and ensuring library policies are followed. They are a tremendous help to the staff and patrons. |
DUTIES |

Learn to use CybraryN
-
Assist users in the login process
-
Using the CybraryN software, set up patron accounts for printing and add money to accounts.

Assist patrons in setting up free e-mail accounts
-
Assist patrons in Internet searches, directing them to the library's online databases as appropriate
-
Assist patrons with standard applications like Microsoft Word.

Assist patrons in burning CDs
-
Clean keyboards and mice as needed
-
Help keep computer area tidy
-
Alert staff to potential computer problems
-
Refer patron problems to a staff member
-
Monitor computer screens for inappropriate material and notify staff.

Volunteer will watch to make sure the computers in the Children's Room are not being misused when the Children's librarian is not present.

Volunteer will assist with the login process in the Children's Room if the parent is unfamiliar with the process. It is the parent's responsibility to assist the child in using the computer if he/she needs help.

TIME COMMITMENT |

Shifts are 11:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Saturday and 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday.

Volunteers are asked to work a whole shift one day a week or every other week.
