Register today to read your original poetry aloud at "The Poetry Thing" to be judged for prizes! Open to all ages. Adult and youth awards categories.
Register online HEREor at the Library to be one of 50 scheduled performers. Additional readings will be performed if time permits. The audience does not need to register.

“The Poetry Thing” Rules

1.  Each Poet reads/recites  his/her original work. No props allowed.

2.  Poets are limited to 3 minutes. Reader will be stopped and each judge will deduct 1/2 point for poems going over 3 minutes.

3.  Judges will score on a scale of 10, with 1.0 being lowest and 10 being the highest. The highest three total scores will be awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in adult and youth (19 and under) categories.

4.  In case of tied scores, the judges will decide the appropriate order of finish. All decisions by the judges are final.

5.  This event aims to promote the enjoyment of poetry by all ages, therefore the content and language need to be appropriate for a general audience. Judges will disqualify any work which employs patronizing, profanity, or vulgarity.
