Catch the Reading Bug
Baxter County Library will begin offering Playaway, the first self-playing digital audio book, at the main Library, adding the innovative digital format to their existing audio book collection. Half the size of a deck of cards, Playaway is a self contained, preloaded MP3 player. “Playaway is the simplest way to listen to digital content on the go,” said Kim Crow Sheaner, Teen Librarian. It comes with the audio content already pre-loaded on it and a battery to make it play. Each Playaway weighs only two ounces, and has a universal jack. “The initial collection includes titles teens will likely read for assigned reading and for entertainment. Patrons can use their own headphones, or purchase a reusable set from the Library for $1.00.” The addition of Playaway titles to the Young Adult Collection at Baxter County Library is made possible by a grant through Bank of America. “Bank of America is pleased to partner with the Baxter County Public Library. This project will help citizens of all age groups enjoy the benefits of technology and the Library experience,” said Larry A. Manry, Market Executive, Northwest Arkansas, Bank of America. ______________________________________________

July 12, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Ecologist Michael Warriner isn’t what you’d expect from someone who studies rare plant and animal species in Arkansas and has a passion for strange beetles and tarantulas. On the surface, he’s a quiet, somewhat reserved scientist. Get him talking about Arkansas’s rare plants and animals and the “Nature Guy” emerges. As the Nature Guy, Warriner has the unique ability to make learning about Arkansas’s natural heritage fun and (dare it be said?) interesting! _______________________________________________________ What is Baxter County Library Click HERE to visit the Library Use Value Calculator to see how much you would pay out of pocket for your library services. _________________________________________________ Liberty Bank of Arkansas has stepped forward with a commitment to the Baxter County Library Foundation Capital Campaign for the new Library. Liberty Bank’s donation qualifies them for the Margie Dahlke Supporter’s Circle of Honor. With their commitment, Liberty Bank joins the Margie Dahlke Supporter’s Circle of Honor. Margie Dahlke, the first Librarian, initiated programs still enjoyed today, including story time and summer reading programs for children and travelogues for adults. She routinely traveled to general stores throughout the area establishing satellite collections. The circle named for her honors the commitment of those who have donated or bequeathed $50,000 to $99,999.
