Event Details

Blending America 250 and coin collecting join us to learn about Colonial Coinage and its evolution into American coinage with Chris Carter and the North Central Arkansas Coin Club.

With a B.A. and M.A. in history plus 2 years of a PhD before shifting to law Chris started collecting British coins at Oxford when shillings and Florins (2 shillings) were still in circulation. Learn when foreign coins were legal tender in this country, why our coins have reeded edges, why we have a quarter dollar, and do not have pennies. Find out who were the main architects of the United States monetary system and what coins we started minting in the 1790s.

Then learn about some of the coins that might be issued to celebrate our 150th  anniversary, 200th anniversary and the mints plans for 2026 (they have not finalized them yet as of today).
