Your Adventure in History

Explore Fort Clatsop with the Library virtually either from the Library or from your home. The Zoom link is available to watch from home, or the Knox Community Rooms will be open with a snack and viewing spot for those who would like to enjoy from the Library.

We will discover the rich heritage of the native people. Unfold the dramatic stories of America's most famous explorers. Follow in the footsteps of the explorers and have an adventure in history.

This will be a live, virtual education program at Fort Clatsop in Lewis and Clark National Historical Park in Astoria, Oregon. The program, Life at the Fort, includes a visit to the fort with a ranger in period costume and more. If time allows, the visit will wrap up with a flint lock muzzle loading demonstration. This is a program that you will not want to miss!

"On March 22, 1806, Coboway, chief of the Clatsop people, made his final visit to Fort Clatsop, knowing the men of the Corps were making their final preparations for departure. Lewis, in a gesture of gratitude, presented the chief with the fort and its contents.

Lewis wrote of their friend, “He has been much more kind an hospitable to us than any other Indian in this neighbourhood.”

The next day, Sunday, March 23, the men loaded the few remaining belongings into their canoes (and one canoe that actually belonged to the Clatsops), and at about 1 p.m. began their long journey home."
