Author Talya Tate Boerner will be visiting with us. She is the author of our 2025 If All Baxter County Read the Same Book selection The Third Act of Theo Gruene. If All Baxter County Read The Same Book is to foster conversation in our community through discussion of the the book chosen.
Theo Gruene is comfortable with the predictable rut of his life. A seventy-year-old retired botany professor, he spends his days preserving plant specimens for the University of Arkansas Herbarium and minding his own business. When Penelope Palmer, a precocious eight-year-old, appears on his front porch during a spring thunderstorm, Theo’s life opens to unexpected possibilities.
Talya will be discussing the book with us as well as the inspiration behind it. She is also a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist and will have a workshop on Phenology starting at 1:00 PM.
Other books by Talya Tate Boerner include The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee (Ten-year-old Gracie Lee struggles to make sense out of her life as an Arkansas farm girl in the early 1970s), Gene, Everywhere (This quiet, grace-filled memoir reminds us that it takes courage to slow down and confront one’s own insecurities and to face head-on the fragility of life’s quiet moments), and Bernice Runs Away (a charming story of second chances and the transcendent power of love, Bernice Runs Away clears away life’s clutter and gets to the truth of what is essential in life).
Notes from the author:
I love good stories of almost any genre. I like to binge-watch cooking shows and always have a stack of to-read library books on my desk. Yes, I am a bit late to the writing game, as I spent twenty-five years as a banker in Dallas before becoming an author. But better late than never, right?
I have a backyard butterfly garden and love growing native plants. As an Arkansas Master Gardener and an Arkansas Master Naturalist, nature often inspires my writing. In fact, I believe writing and gardening are extremely similar endeavors!
I live in Fayetteville, Arkansas with my husband and two schnauzers, Gracie and Annabelle (who rule the house). I think the Ozark Mountains are as gorgeous as any place on Earth!
