Virtual Write Like an Actor Workshop

As a part of the Read | Write | Ignite Fall Literary Series, the Baxter County Library will be hosting a virtual author workshop with art history fiction novelist Stephanie Storey on Wednesday, October 28 at 9am. To join, register to get the Zoom link on the calendar at baxlib.org.

Actors train for years to learn to create and embody full, rounded characters – finding the motivations, quirks, conflicts, gestures, and points of view that truly bring imaginary people to life. Now you can learn some of the tools of the acting craft in a writer-friendly environment (no getting up on “stage”) to help you improve your writing. In this virtual workshop, author Stephanie Storey will lead you through short lectures and writing prompts. You will learn how to write better dialogue, get in touch with your characters’ emotions, develop strong points of view, and choose character details that are specific and important.

Stephanie Storey’s debut novel Oil and Marble was hailed as “tremendously entertaining” by The New York Times, has been translated into six different languages, and is currently in development as a feature film by Pioneer Pictures. Storey is also the author of Raphael, Painter in Rome, which came out in April 2020 in conjunction with the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death. Stephanie has previously lived in Arkansas, and is an alumna of Lakeside High School in Hot Springs. She has a degree in Fine Arts from Vanderbilt University and attended a PhD program in Art History, before leaving to get an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and has studied art in Italy and been on a pilgrimage to see every Michelangelo on display in Europe.
